Hi, I’m Matthew Joseph Martin (or “Majo” for simplicity sake when ordering coffee in Indonesia).
I’m an American who’s been living in Indonesia for over a decade. I speak both English and Indonesian, and I love exploring the ways cultures intersect, influence each other, and build new stories together — especially through everyday life, parenting, and entrepreneurship.
I'm the proud father of three amazing school-aged kids. Being their dad is my most joyful and humbling role, and it shapes the way I think about learning, growth, and the future. My wife is Indonesian, and our home life is a beautiful blend of traditions, languages, and shared values.
Professionally, I’m passionate about building things — especially when technology and real-world needs intersect. I’ve previously founded an Islamic Finance marketplace called Blossom Finance.
These days I’m actively exploring menswear across western and eastern traditions, especially focused on Indonesia’s rich tradition of handmade goods like batik tulis and tenun.
I write about a little bit of everything: life with kids, business experiments, learning languages, playing with IoT, musings on fashion design (especially tailoring details like suit jackets and pants!), and whatever else I’m exploring at the moment.
I believe in lifelong learning, thoughtful living, and doing things with heart — especially crafting things yourself that are well made as an alternative to buying cheaply made products that are easily broken an impossible to repair.
