MatMar10 File Sync: A Personal File Sync Tool for Obtaining an Rclone Client ID

Overview

This Google Cloud application exists solely to create and manage a Google OAuth 2.0 Client ID for use with rclone, in order to improve performance and reliability when syncing my own personal files.

This application is:

  • Private
  • Single-user
  • Not public
  • Not offered as a service
  • Not authorized for use by anyone other than the developer

What This App Does

This app does not provide a standalone service or user-facing functionality.

Its only purpose is to:

  • Generate a Google OAuth Client ID
  • Allow rclone (a third-party open-source file synchronization tool) to authenticate with Google APIs using that Client ID
  • Enable faster, more reliable syncing of files owned and controlled by the developer

All file access and synchronization is performed by rclone, not by this app itself.

Why Google User Data Access Is Requested

The OAuth Client ID created by this app is used by rclone to request Google API access (such as Google Drive scopes) in order to synchronize files.

Access to Google user data:

  • Is limited to what rclone requires for file synchronization
  • Applies only to the developer’s own Google account
  • Is not used for analytics, advertising, or third-party processing
  • Is not shared with any external parties

Data Handling

This app:

  • Does not collect or store user data
  • Does not operate servers or process files
  • Does not intercept, proxy, or modify data accessed by rclone

All data access occurs directly between rclone and Google APIs using OAuth credentials associated with this app.
